Until now, when I thought of ergonomics, I primarily thought of my workplace: an office chair that is comfortable for my spinal discs, a desk that is the right height, a mouse that doesn't lead to tennis elbow.
And then the abbreviations UI (user interface design) and UX (user experience design) popped up more and more frequently, which I didn't initially associate with ergonomic desk chairs. I suspect that others feel the same way. Now I know better!
Simple and complex
Ergo, wasn't there something else? That's right, occupational therapy - a therapy designed to improve the ability to act after illness or injury. The Greek prefix ergo means work, labor.
With this knowledge, it is easy to build a bridge to the rather comprehensive meaning of ergonomics. Ergonomics is the interdisciplinary science of the performance possibilities of working people and the best possible adaptation between human requirements and working conditions, in terms of workplaces, equipment and work processes.
Somehow, ergonomics is supposed to make everything better: for people, for output. One can already guess that it will not be quite so easy to coordinate a person's physical abilities and needs with cognitive demands for improved information transfer and mental performance as well as optimized work processes in parallel with growing job satisfaction.
Ergonomic information processing
... is at the heart of the development of Pro:Hive applications. UI is about designing user interfaces in such a way that the presentation of information and the type of interaction are designed in such a way that people can use them optimally. In other words, findings from all areas of ergonomics should be implemented in such a way that both usability and intuitiveness are increased.
UX aims to take the entire context of use into account for a positive user experience. The aim is to increase efficiency, productivity and user satisfaction.
Human-friendly digitalization
An interdisciplinary approach is necessary in order to design human-machine interfaces in the best possible way, taking all factors into account. A well thought-out ergonomic concept forms a good basis for the success and acceptance of digital products. Especially when it comes to processing huge amounts of data.
